Thankfully, it appears that the vast majority of posts on the 'Nkorho chat' topic are actually about Nkorho or about the proposed new streaming cams and not 'hello's/goodbye's or other inconsequential/irrelevant chattter. It is a credit to those who post items of interest there that they are, actually avoiding posting messages that are of no interest to the majority.

I don't believe that I am alone in my belief that inconsequential chat should not be on the Nkorho Forums (what, otherwise is the Campfire for? Should The Campfire not be deleted from the Forums if we can chit-chat elsewhere?) and that the Moderators are 'giving in' to the minority of cammers who object to their posts being moved to a 'more suitable' forum.

Can the Mods explain why they felt it neccessary to divide the Wateringhole into two seperate topics, when the original forum worked well enough?
Hasn't the Boma become confusing (and time-consuming to navigate) enough as it is, for some of us?

Just to clear up things I post parts of Campbell's post again,

Quote:
We are currently building a new camera system that will be installed at Elephant Plains Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands, next door to Nkorho. This will be another waterhole camera with better IR capabilities as well as two mobile safari cameras, that will be able to join game drives both at Nkorho Game Lodge and Elephant Plains.
So you can see there is no affiliation with Djuma, but then Campbell says in his other post
Quote:
We have no problem with the users of this forum discussing other streaming cameras (as in not Africam’s), as long as it is of interest to the users of this forum. If need be alternative topics can be opened daily for this purpose.

Years ago Djuma was africam, it all started there, but now africam belongs to Campbell and his cams are at Nkorho Lodge and soon there will be one at Elephant Plains as well. Both the cams are not far from Djuma, I think not even 10km from each other.
We might even see the same animals.
Campbell is a special guy

I'm fairly new to Nkorho, Djuma... and enjoy all of it. I think Cat has hit it squarely on the head. There is something to please everyone, and no one should have to feel infringed upon. I can see where the repetetive and sometimes irrelevant chat would be irritating to some, but the numbers speak and obviously many people prefer freer format.

Personally, I will quickly scan the sighting postings when I first come on. Just to see what I may have missed. Then I head to the chatty forum so I can exchange more ideas and tidbits with folks. I don't, however, try to read every page I've missed! Getting to know people's personalities a little, rather than just Jane Doe from OK saw a hippo at 3 a.m., is more fun and interesting for me. What could be better than connecting with nice people from all over with a common interest?

As far as Djuma and Nkorho and upcoming cams are concerned- being as they are similar in location and overall topic, it is hard to say folks can't post about one or the other. I feel that the more people that discover and appreciate the cams, forums, and MOST OF ALL develop an interest and affinity for South Africa and all the precious wild life the better. Let them chat away and become aware of the world out there!

Well, I'm really sorry for adding to the confusion. I thought Campbell's project was just up and running early to get the bugs out. So sorry for making more trouble!!

As for the added forums, the cam discussions often slipped into chat, especially when people were on but nothing was happening. The mods and some members wanted it to stay simply about sightings while others wanted to be able to extend the convo from "Hyena at 12 o'clock" to "I see it, wonder what it's doing. What did they do yesterday, do they have babies, did you see any on your trip to Africa?" Still about hyenas, but more than just the facts. Also saw no harm in hello, good-bye, and I've lost the picture. So Some of the members created a chat forum about the sightings. Mods said it was ok. THEN.......Djuma came up and everyone wanted to talk about it. Not everyone, but many. So Ingwe created a forum for that.

Does that make any sense now? It you want sightings with chat, go to the chat forum. If you want sightings without chat, stay on the old cam discussions.

Elephant Plains and Djuma are two different entities. Elephant Plains will be doing some game drive cams and another wh cam later this month. :D Someone just posted the game drive from Djuma by chance and we now get to enjoy that.

I have to agree. Really confused by the whole thing and the fragmenting of the site.

Ingwe, I guess I'm really confused. There is an announcement on Waterhole, signed by Campbell, telling about 2 new waterhole sites and drive cams coming soon. Is this something separate from Djuma? Is it Elephant Plains and they are not related, Elephant Plains and Djuma? The projects sound alike, I guess I leapt to the conclusion that they were the same project. Sorry for the misspokes then, I though it was all the same .

Here's my view on this subject...

All these new threads popping up in the Watering hole gets a bit confusing at times. I understand people don't want to jump between boards to post but they still have to jump between threads (topics) to post.
:?

The Watering hole as I understood was for streaming cam discussions and the Campfire for all off topic chat.

The only suggestion I can think of is adding sub boards for the additional chats and discussions we have curently going on. It may make it easier to find the proper thread (topic) to post in and make it easier for the staff as well.

I like many of the others appreciate the great staff as well as the members here and the chance to view what I call wildlife at it's best. :)

Campbell is not affiliated with Djuma. I think he has made a very generous gesture in allowing discussion of that cam on this forum.
