Sorry Dan, didn't see this. It's a Ascalaphus libelluloides. I can't find an english description for it. It's in the same order as antlions.

Actually, no they're not always green.  Frank took a picture here and it's brown.  I don't know could be different kinds.  We are about 80 km apart.
