if you are talking about at EP. I "think" the hippo is still near but out of view, sounds like the snorting pig like sound that they can make.

it's hard to say in all honesty.
it could be out looking for a new home, or out grazing like they normally do at night and just re-wetting himself before he keeps going further.

Seems like the hippos have been a lot more mobil than since I joined here. What do you attribute that to?...male subadults leaving home? Other water holes drying up?

lol... guess he wanted to make sure he was seen with his little walk by he gave us.

cynthia - even when water is shallow, they can sometimes take a "quick dip" like that one did to wet his skin some.

boy, the size is really hard to tell with critters on that cam.
