strange picture at EP. like a cloud of dust crossing the water and coming back to form a shadow right in the grass in front. buffering a lot, so that did not help. Anyone has seen that and could tell me what it could be? I leaned first toward an elephant or a buffalo but the last view of it did not match.

That was absolutely fantastic to see and hear.  Now if he would do a repeat performance after dawn so the lighting is better to see him.  And heck why not bring his friends along too lol.

Here is a post made from NK lodge last night ...

Tue, 29/04/2008 - 10:17am

Report Ernst.

Good day everyone

What happended is we had a Buffalo that had a broken leg and died at Buffalo dam in the mud. I went to go drag it out as the mud was hiding the scent of the dead animal.

Through the night we heard the lions from all directions and went to go look last night but no luck.

We went to the dam this morning and found the Nkuhuma lions, 6 females and several youngsters, on the buffalo. Another vehicle saw the 7 Styx and a male very close to the area but heading south away from the area and the male from the Nkuhuma pride was chasing them and then returned to the Buff.

At the same time other guides in the area picked up on 3 of the Mapogo males on the area just west close to Djuma bush lodge heading towards us. When we closed down for the morning they were sleeping close to the back of the lodge.

The Nkuhumas are on the buff and Mapogos are sleeping and the styx are far out of the area.

There is also one Elephant bull in the area and there are still lots of live Buffalo in the area. The Wild dogs are still far west from our immediate area but are constantly moving around.

I will be give an update tonight again and if they come towards the lodge I'll ask Jacque to let everyone know if we are out on drive.

Have a great day

I agree with you there theva.  We do want to keep the prides apart.  It did seem like he was "talking" to another lion further off with his roars and the other one roaring at the same time.

And here is the latest today ...

Today at 8:53 PM SA Time:

Good evening all

The 3 Mapogo's killed a Buffalo bull right where the Nkuhumas ate the other one and finished it. Mr t is one of the 3 and they are realy taking there in feeding on it.

The wild dogs are still running in circles west of us with no direction, and killed a Impala ram in the morning.

The buffalo that was in the area vanished but will be back soon for water.

The Nkuhumas haven't been located yet but tracks indicate they fled north.

Hope it is an exciting night

Yes Tourneyman1, I hope the prides keep well apart, I have no wish to see a fight, it can get pretty ugly. Sad I wish lions weren't so intent on spreading their genes and stayed at home with their females and cubs a little more...

Thank you Wild Dreamer, interesting info! A lot is happening in the area.
