Toktokkie, group of beetles inhabiting the arid zones of southern Africa. Toktokkies are generally black, and are rounded and very shiny, with relatively long legs.

The name is onomatopoeic, coming from the tapping sound they make. Toktokkies do not possess wings, thus they cannot fly around in search of a mate. The male therefore has to tap the hind tip of his abdomen on the ground as a signal to females, and in this way toktokkies are able to locate one another. Each species of toktokkie taps with differing frequency, thus attracting only females of the same species.

Toktokkie larvae feed on the roots of small plants, while adults are omnivorous, consuming both plant and animal material.

I was watching these 1 morning and seen how they took that spiders food and was eating the fresh growth of greens sprouting from the ground. They seem to eat pretty fast for such a small bug.

Bushie :

That beetle is called a Lily Weevil - typically feigns death when disturbed, adults feed on foliage of various plants, including aloes and it is ground dwelling
