The Elusive Cheetah          

On Friday, October 23rd, while the camera was panning around at NK, finding us elephants and impalas, one of those “blink of the eye” animals flew through the picture, causing all of us to wonder...  “What was that?”  “Did you see that?” “Was it a cat?” We all pondered as the zoomie behind the NK controls began to search, and wow, did that zoomie find an amazing treasure.  A cheetah, long, lanky and graceful was making its way to the waterhole. Hippy Hippo at Nkorho          

It’s not often we get to see hippos wander through at EP or NK.  In the summer when the grass is long over at EP, we have seen a few come through late at night. We can hear them chewing long before you we actually see them.  And it’s even less often we see them venture into the water holes. 
During the night on October 24th, a slow moving hefty hippo meandered into the NK waterhole to cool off for a little while.  The water wasn’t deep enough for him to get the traditional floating hippo look where we would only see the top of his head, ears, nose and eyes. Wild and Beautiful 

Just before sundown on October 27th, a few critters wandered into the cam view on NK. The zoomie was busy but the camera was sitting just right.  We looked...we squinted our eyes and looked again...we elbowed our neighbors “hey...are those what I think they are??”  About that time the sound of muffled voices were heard through the mics at NK, and the zoomie started to follow the critters.  Yep, we all sat in awe as we realized they were African Wild Dogs, also known as the Cape Hunting Dog, or Painted Dog.
