Africam for Bushbabies           Bushbaby

Since you are receiving this newsletter, I am sure you have been watching the cams for some time.  But have you posted in the forums or boma.  Posting is kind of scary for the first time since you don't know anyone and no one knows you.  The thing is that you can be anonomous.  You do not have to use your real name - ever, if you do not want to.  You do need to use a valid e-mail address, but you have already done that to receive the newsletter.

It has been a long time since I originally registered, so to write this, I logged out and began a new registration.  This way I can walk you through it as I do it myself.

You start at Africam's main page at www.africam.com

Visit by a Boomslang

Saturday afternoon March 7/09 Louis was at the controls of the cam at EP, together with Prins one of the EP rangers. While panning around Prins spotted movement amongst the weaverboomslang nests in the tree on the island. To an experienced guide, the movement suggested a snake amongst the nests.

Louis then zoomed in on the snake which Prins ID’ed as a female boomslang. From our chairs in USA to Australia and everywhere in between we watched as the snake raided the weaver nests. We could clearly see how the nests moved when she poked her head into them.

She eventually slithered deeper into the tree and we lost sight of her.

Africam Interview - Campbell Scott

1 - What was your motivation in starting Africam up again, because you must have known how daring a venture it was?

Well I think a certain part of Africam is its ability to keep on moving no matter what adversities you throw at it. It really is resilient. I have also seen the value of Africam and the impact it has made on other business from Djuma Game Reserve in the beginning and now with our cam partners, Nkorho and Elephant Plains. I also can’t resist a good challenge!

2 - Have you been a ranger and what is your biggest interest in the field, ie. are you a birder or what?

Yes, my interests have changed over the years, or perhaps expanded is a better word, but I am particularly interested in systems and how things work and influence each other. We all know how the moon influences the tides and the tides influence various animals feeding and breeding cycles.  Well there are lots of such influences in nature and our own lives and some are more obvious than others.

3 - What was your most memorable wildlife sighting(s)?
