Sounds very similar to mine..it has 3 settings too, and it does take a long time, apparently.  I think I'm frightened it will catch the cabinets alight...lol.  I guess you mean the door is very hot...I'm sure they are well insulated all round the sides and top and bottom otherwise they wouldnt be able to be built in to cabinetry.  Mine's only a few months old but I will have to try it some time.. ..lol

edit: ok, just saw your last post..that sounds promising...lol.

Janice,  you got me thinking and I've just gone and checked. It's now up to full heat and I put my hand in the cupboard underneath the oven and can't feel any heat at all on the cabinet surround. I have a second oven above the one that's cleaning and that, too, is cold. It's only the front that's hot.

Mine is only a couple of years old and I've only cleaned it like this 3 times before. It is built into cabinets and it doesn't seem to have damaged them at all. It gets very hot on the outside of the oven but I avoid touching it while it's cleaning. I was scared when I first used it but it all seems to work fine.  I always make sure I don't have any bits of food left in and give it a good wipe down before cleaning.  Mine has 3 different cleaning heats and usually I do the middle one but as I haven't done it for a while, tonight am doing the hottest. It takes 2 hours.

Oh, I'm curious...I have one too but haven't used it yet as the oven isn't that old.  Plus I think I'm a little scared to use it..lol.  Is your's an oven built into cabinets?  I'm wondering how hot it actually gets on the outside..or more to the point, how warm the cabinet actually gets.  Mine's a Bosch.
