The post was not aimed at you at all. I've been on many forums since their beginning and each one had their own topics.

What I'm referring to is that not everyone will be happy, so it will be extremely difficult for cameraman to satisfy everyone.

I have no doubt that "The Boma" will become very successfull. And I have no doubt that it will have it's own threads and topics created according to the shall I say the "personality" of the community. I'm sure it's going to be different to KNP Forums and I will be glad because it will be pointless if all the forums were the same.

This way is not the only way..but will work for some of you and probably not others.

After i log in, I try to think of the 'africam.com forum Index' as the homepage. (whenever i get lost, i tend to go back there and click on it! ).
Then i choose from the right side of that page..."View posts since last visit"

that page will show each Forum's name.
But the small Bell? icon on the left edge of each forum name..shows whether there is an unread posting.
(In case you left this boma and didn't sign-out..then when you return , It will give you refresh the page..i think it says to the right.."View unread posts"

For any Forum that you are interested in...click on it the 'Forum name' and it will show the topics under that particlular forum. Click on those that you want to read.

At this point also..i scroll to the bottom of each page as i go along and choose two things.
I chose to show the last 7 days of posts (but, if i have had time to check each day..then i only choose "One Day" )

and then i also..choose "Show the newest first" Because to me that is more like the old Boma..it puts the newest subject lines at top of page.

(Florian, i agree with you...to set as the defaut choice .."Show newest first") Those who prefer the opposite can choose "...oldest first" but that could as you say..oldes could be 7 or 8 pages ago. )
Right now ..one needs to go to bottom of each topic and make this choice of showing "Newest First" if that is what you choose.

Also when done reading the "topics" under each Forum It's possible to select.. at the top right of the list..."Mark all posts REad" Then hopefully when you refresh the page..only those that you have not read will show up.

I hope that somehow this will help...and others will have more and better ideas, but thus far i saw no instuctions posted...sooooooo Good Luck!!

(Also another suggestion that i have is to also put the date on the Chit-Chat topic each day. Example: Chit-chat Sunday , 26 Feb, 2006)

Hello W@H - you are correct in your estimation that Some people like it, others don't ... You cannot always satisfy everyone ... but I never said that I don't like the KNP boards, just that I don't have the time to keep up with all of the very many Topics and Threads, which is why I suggested that this forum be kept as simple as possible because I know that other Africammers feel the same way.

Whilst the KNP forum attracts many visitors from around the world who have either been to KNP or other Sanparks many times or plan to do so in the near future, their are very many here who dream of going to Africa but know that this dream may never be realised.

Many of the Threads on KNP are designed for those who 'have been' or who are 'planning to go' to KNP or other Sanparks but I personally believe that this message board would be more user-freindly for Africammers if it limits the number of Forums.

Big is not always Beautiful - I know how hard you and the other Moderators on the KNP site work and truly appreciate your efforts - but I would not, personally, like to see the Africam forum become the 'monster' that is now the KNP forum.

That's true Cameraman ... Most forums start off with a few topics. Then you start getting requests for more threads etc. Some people like it, others don't ... You cannot always satisfy everyone ... I really think you have done a great job with the forum.

Sooner or later you will see it grow and more requests coming in ... and that is not neccesarily a bad thing ... unlike supporting the Cats Rugby Team

Some very good points made. Just what the best way to organise the forums is I don't know yet but I'll be open to suggestions. It is fairly early days yet (just a few of them so far!) but as time goes on, the community will either a) organise itself around the board or b) ask for some reorganisation to make everyone's life easier.

After about a month I think I'll have a handle on what the most efficient way of laying out this place is. But if you have a good idea in the meantime, please share it.

I know what you mean Barb - and I would prefer this board to be kept fairly simple without too many topic headings otherwise it becomes a full-time occupation trying to follow every topic and the threads within the topics if you follow me? On the positive side, new postings here go to the top of the list as they are organised according to the dates of the most recent posts

If I am to be honest tho, I preferred the 'new' boards on the 'old' Africam - with different boards for each designated topic, for example the boards for different cams, the Experts Forum etc, in which the threads could be followed easily.

I find myself hopping here and there to try to find who is talking when I'm in here. You are right Tabs about the chit chat part having so many posts it's impossible to follow. I just thought an easier way would have everyone on the same page and make things more user friendly. I reallllyyyy am trying to get the hang of all this.. LOL :oops:

Its possible to start yoyr own 'Today's Thread' - but it would also be possible for the Moderators to add a seperate topic thread under the title, for example, of Chit Chat (as used by KNP) but it would need the Moderators to be able to move messages to a more appropriate thread if neccessary.
If you take a look at the KNP message board you will see how this works in practice.
My only concern is that this could result in too many threads - the KNP message board has grown so big that I no longer go there often as there are too many threads to follow!
