About
Once, very long ago in Africam history, I saw a bird on a cam. It was refresh cams then and the cam caught the bird just as it flew up. It was a lilac-breasted roller. What colours!
On a visit to family in SA, a birder took me to Nylsvley to show me the lilac-breasted roller. I saw it, and I saw so much more. When I got out of the car, a crimsonbreasted shrike sat less than two meters away from me. It didn’t fly away, just sat there watching me.
Nature opened up to me and ever since I’m exploring it’s wonders.
Once I saw a bird fly into a wall and disappear, I'm still searching for that bird. In spring and early summer you will find me on my bicycle cycling through town, inventorising the natural nestholes of the Common Swift (Apus apus), a bird who changed his normal patterns from breeding in cracks in rocks to breeding in holes in townhouses and buildings.
I myself provided them with nestboxes, which they happily accepted.

After 11 years of Africam, my most favourite pic ever.
