We have noticed some users who are reporting a virus that apparently originates from the Africam site. So far it has been tricky to pinpoint the cause with sometimes conflicting information.
We suspect tho it is one of the ad networks that are servicing pop unders on the Refresh Cam popup pics and we have been using a network there that i had almost forgotten about. Be that as it may we have disabled them forthwith.
From what i can understand from the various reports that have reached me, a popup appears with an alarming message (eg " Virus found !!! please click to fix") that causes people to click but instead of fixing causes some infection.
IGNORE such messages but please note the url and when the popup/event happened. That will help us ensure we can identify the root cause. It may also be geo- targeted i.e. only certian regions will get them.
We do take real care with our site & advertisers to avoid such issues, but with millions of people always looking for gaps its inevitable some will slip thru. However, once we identify the complete issue we WILL be taking action. If it turns out it was one of our Ad networks, they will be banned immediately without any further discussion
We will revert later today once we have more information.
Africam Drupal Admin

Thank you so much Jon and others at Africam! I know that your viewers are important to you. One only has to spend a short time at this site and see the caliber of your administrators, moderators, camera operators and viewers to know that you care deeply.
I am sure that something like this was almost inevitable in time and not a fault of yours.
From all that I have been reading about this invasion, it is very widespread and they recognized a tremendous opportunity by getting onto your site.
Thank you for your efforts to track it down. I would like to see some major consequences for the perpetrators but understand that is not in your control.
Thank you for making your site SAFE for us! Now it is up to me to understand a little better about my own computer and learn how to keep it safe! Next time I hope I will do a better job!
Again, thank you! Myra
