Bringing conversation from yesterday's thread to here. Wild Dreamer, you are correct that not all kills are noisy. Leopards kill as silently as possible so as not to attract other predators to their kills. Not only do they risk losing their kill but also their lives if a confrontation occurs. Also, I think it might be a case of what is killed and if it is a solitary animal or in a herd as to how much noise is made. The number of lions on a kill might increase the noise level too as they are known to fight over the spoils.

On another note, I don't get too excited when I hear lions or leopards as 9 times out of 10 (especially with lions) you never hear them or an alarm before they just appear in front of the cam. Smiling Not to say though that a good belt out from a lion or leopard doesn't get my blood to pumping. LOL

Thank you Aquila  that makes sense but I dont think there was a kill tonight any place near..I think as far as the shuffling etc.. I think since the mic is in the Murula tree could have been vervets or babs moving through the tree or the leaves moving..AThe wildie was still bellowing after all the noise was heard So I dont think it was the wildie..

and if Im not mistaken I can hear the lions off in the distance still calling out..Eye-wink

Yep Bascia and if the lions are roaring they aren't hunting but.... there still could be some near the water hole that are in stealth mode. All I want is a parade in front of the water hole. Is that too much to ask Styx girls and/or Mapogo boys?????

Hey, all! Busy day replacing chicken wire fencing in my garden. And, my 8-yr.-old niece slept over last night with my 10-yr.-old - they were up until 1:00 a.m.! I might nod off mid-sentence . . . !

What's this about a baboon with a broken jaw? Fill me in, please!

What the heck is going on at NK?  It sounds like banging, a vervet, and then I just heard a kitty growl.  Strange.

Gerda was saying that the baboon with his lower jaw torn off could NOT make it. Injury to bad and he couldn't eat. Just watching him try to lap up some water was painful. Sad.

The only way someone would help the injured Baboon is if the injury was inflicted by a Human.. Other wise they let nature take its course..

Hopefully he will cross over soon and not have much pain..

Hi Lana.  Thank you!  I was on the phone when all the hoopla was going on.  I was sure there would be two pages on it by now.

Hi Marsha, I saw the landie out. One time when it was out this late, someone asked why. The ranger said it was NK owner just coming back to NK from another lodge.
