I posted this in the other thread, not realizing what time it was...haah. Reposting it here:

Hi all. After my nap, I browsed through the thread to see what I may have missed.

About the age of the baby rhino....They say it's about a year old? Do I understand that correctly?

I looked up white rhinos and found this webpage showing a five-week-old white rhino calf with mother.....doesn't this look about the size of the new rhino baby we've been seeing?

Both cams down for me....What about you guys?

Well, EP and NK still down for me.  I was wondering if anyone found out why the elephants were sooo vocal a couple of nights ago?  Since there is nothing to watch I'm going to go do some chores, I'll be back in a while!

    Hi Everone !

Scratron, regarding the Baby Rhino, I too thought for sure it was younger than a year.  I found this video of a newborn, prob a few weeks old as it just made its debut at the Dublin zoo.  Also, during the firt 6 months a baby can double it size or more. Also the little guy last night had no horn growth at all. I still say it was no more than a few weeks old.  Here is the cutest  video ..almost as cute as our Baby Rhino Smiling ..it may take a few seconds but it will come up

Hi guys, I'm new here but not to Africa! I'd say the baby rhino I saw last night, was no more that a couple of months old, if that. Cute little guy for sure!

    Hi Dugaboy-

looks like it's going to be quiet around here for awhile. I missed the baby rhino from the other night. I was hoping for a repeat performance tonight.

Hi Dugaboy and welcome to the Boma.  Yes the Rhino was a cutie for sure !  He had no horn, hardly a nub and he still fit under his mom's head.  I bet I could have held the little booger in my lap, if I could have gotten close enough LOL

                           RHINO BABY

It weighs about 30 to 40 kilograms and only 10 minutes after it appears it can already stand upright, a couple of hours later it begins to suck. It sucks from its mother during 18 months, but it also begins to graze long before it stops sucking. The young has no horn

The closest rhino relationship is between a female and her calf, lasting from 2 to 4 years

My heart tells me one thing , but my head tells me another. I dream of holding and cuddling just about anything with fur, or feathers ...but the funny thing is, I hate places that allow you to do that and have been known to make very vocal protests in shopping malls and road side zoos LOL where they would allow you to pay and have your photo taken with animals

Volunteer at your local humane organization! Or, foster kittens. It's part of the job for me-but, I never get tired of cuddling the critters.  And, I just finished feeding my fosters-lots of cuddling there.  Not very exotic, though.
