I saw a documentary where elephant migration was being studied because they were marching through towns and villages and this study was going to address that.  So they had to tranquilize elephants to collar them.  One mother elephant went down and her baby started to run away, then while they were taking a blood sample and putting the collar on, they baby came back and started stroking the mother and making lots of noise and just showing how upset it was.  They had trouble keeping the baby from hurting anyone, but they didn't want to hurt it either.  It was so heartbreaking until they gave momma the reversal.

Unlike other deer, elk have upper canine, or "eye," teeth. These teeth are a hangover from earlier evolutionary stages and now serve no apparent purpose. Their smooth rounded surface has made them attractive as jewellery. In the 1800s many elk were killed just to obtain the canine teeth.

in yellowstone park in the 1800,s  two brothers  shot  over 2000

elk just for  the two ivory teeth  the bulls have

they got $10.00 for a pair -  the teeth are still today made

into rings that sell for $350.00 and up

Tigers are endangered for that reason.  Maybe gorillas also, but I'm not sure about that.

As I understand it, the adult males are loners.  It's the females that stay with each other in family groups through several generations.  It would be very sad to break up those families.  I hope it's not necessary.

If we really want to do something for the Elephants ( and Rhinos, etc ) STOP the sale of stockpiled Ivory to China and Japan !!!   If they want to increase their libido let them eat Viagra ! Now this is an angry face Sad
