Good morning/evening Everyone Smiling

Looks fairly quiet so far.  I see I missed some ellies earlier.

Pity about the light but hope they are able to fix it come daylight.

Good day to you Janice.  Yes it has been a fairly quiet night so far there.  I have hopes of a good dawn/morning coming up later though Smiling

Morning T'man...yes, I think its always interesting to see what might be stirring as day approaches...or the other end of the day when the night time animals start to come out.  Of course, a kitty or anything could come past at any time, we don't mind. lol

I've got to go out for a while.  Hope the night gets a bit more interesting. Probably be back later

Hi everybody. I predict that dawn will be wonderful at the wh....animals galore, of every kind in SA. Sort of like Noah's Ark at NK---only herds instead of just two. And I say this because I intend to be in bed at dawn...got to get up early in the morning, so just can't watch late tonight. I say that now...we'll see what I really do. lol

That hyena had our hopes up for a cat sighting but was nice of it to walk around pass the front of the cam so we could get a good id of it.  Wildie in the area calling out, and occational rutting noises still.  Hoping that hyena means kill nearby so cat will come to drink too soon.

Hi Chardon.  I hope you are right about being good dawn sightings although it is getting harder and harder for me to stay up late lately lol.  Hope to see you at the dawn watch other days then.

Hello everyone! Just for the fun of it, see if you can ID the alarm calls.

Zebras, Warthogs and Alarm Calls

I posted it in the Q & A for their expertise on these critters and the calls they make.   Wondering if it was the Kudu Jacques mentioned alarming.  If so, it will be the first time hearing it and actually knowing who made the call (at least for me).  :)

Hi Sue and ty.  With the light out we can't see the right side anyway so this is the best cam angle to see what is in what light we have anyway at NK.

very interesting sounds in that.  I would like to know what it was that was the loudest so seems to have been closest to the mic.  I didn't  see any of the zebras that looked like they were calling out.  could hear what sounded pig like sound a bird, and also an intreging low almost purr sound especially seemed louder towards the last part of the video.  Will be interesting to know what it was that was making the sounds.  I didn't see any kudu in the video, was that the main sound you are talking about?  To me that almost sounded like the baboons yell/bark that we hear at EP at times too

1:32 am CAT NK

I am interested in who is making the calls, too.  I don't recognize them most of the time either. I heard several calls from different critters just now.

The kudu had left the water hole not long before the sounds started. I too thought it almost sounded like babs bark or an impala maybe right up on the mic making it sound distorted. Kudu supposedly bark and I have never heard one so have no clue what their bark sounds like. LOL

You can see the kudu running around in the bush on the left side of the screen and when zoomie started scaning the bush it stopped the cam on one kudu cow

The deep loud to me almost fog horn burst sound just after the zebras moved to the left was wildebeast if that is the sound you are refering to.
