Nearly all lodges have a trails guide qualified ranger on staff so that the guests can go for a walk in stead of a drive or a walk after the drive. I love the walks as it gives you a chance to see the smaller creatures too which you miss when driving.
Yes ! and all of the plants and trees ! and learning about reading the tracks ..I have dreamed of Africa for so long ..and none of my dreams included 5 star lodges LOL. I want to be 8 years old again LOL

I wonder if NK would have the opportunity for a guest to hire a private walk with a guide or ranger and just go off the beaten path , for a day or overnight ?

WD, wouldn't that be fun!!!  Not overnight but just a walk.
If I ever went I would have to have at least one night in a primative camp and the opportunity to just get off the path LOL  Besides if I could do that I would take lots of photos and take lots of notes and then come back, and make a map of all the places that are just out of view of the cam LOL
