Alf, I think it was "phone" home. You know I think there is a padded room with your name up there waiting on you. It's in one of those places they don't let you have sharp object and shoelaces. LOL

JUNE  8TH  RANGER REPORT ON LEOPARDS

Leopards:
It is now confirmed that Nyeleti has two very healthy cubs that are the most adorable things on four legs. They are still quite skittish of the vehicles, but in time they will become more relaxed, like the rest of our cats. Kurula’s 2 cubs are now 15 months old and looking absolutely stunning. Ntima and her cub are spending a lot of time close to Big Dam and providing us with spectacular sightings. Safari and Matimba are still going strong, but I must say that Matimba is moving around in a much larger area. Who knows? He might be nearing the age where he is looking to find his own territory. Salayexe has been mating with Tyson, but she is not yet showing signs of pregnancy. We will keep you posted on her progress.

I wish her lots of luck! I didn't do pregnancy well either. Spent most of the time in the hospital with the 1st one. First they kept telling me that I lost him, the, oh no, there he is. Ended up carrying him for ten months, he had started losing weight. Weighed 9 lbs.Was pregnant again 7 montjs later. She broke my tailbone at 4months.

Hi every one,

Busy trying to get some things done, but noticed Barry's post with the Info from the Leopards Area. I do have info on Salayexe, but have not had the time lately to go in and finish adding the info on the rest of the leopards mentioned in there. It will be added soon, but will share the main info for you here.....

Name: Salaxeye

Age: Born on or about April 3, 2005 (39 mos. as of July 2008)

Name Means: "The Only One"

Parents: Saseka and Mufufunyane

Siblings: There was a littermate, but it did not survive

Litters reported to have had: 0

Salayexe has been seen in company with and mating with Tyson for quite a few months now. It is a very safe bet as Aquila shared earlier, that the 2 leopards at EP for the last couple of sightings are Tyson and Salayexe. There were also reported to be on a Bushbuck kill not very far from the cam.

Hope this helps.  :)

from elephant plains  -  older news

Good news on the Africam is that we decided to add more infrared lights to the surrounding trees at the watering hole. This will improve the picture quality on your screen at night. I’m sure all viewers have seen more animal activity at the watering hole over the last month, due to the start of the dry season. Ready yourselves for a great influx of animals during the dry winter months.

Elephant:
As the winter is reaching its climax, more and more elephants are moving into our traversing area. The young ones are always a treat to watch. Elephants can cover a distance of roughly 25 kilometres in a single day in search of food and water. Next month the Sabi Sand will try and capture roughly a 1000 elephants and send them north into some of the parks that need elephants.
