but I guess someone can identify them from those pictures.. Judging by size and shape I'd say impala or reedbuck. Impala are mainly active during the day, reedbuck at night, so reedbuck is more likely. They can't be gazelles because there are no gazelles in the area.
Can you get addicted to this? LOL I know I'll learn a lot and end up making a travel agent some $$ Yes, you can. Welcome to the club!

Hi Janni, Welcome abroad. I didn't see the two that got startled, but usually someone will mention what they see in the "Nkorho Cam Sightings Discussion" thread for whatever day it is at the watering hole. I usually follow this thread to catch up on animals I miss or can't identify on my own. There are lots of people with all kinds of knowledge about the animals we see. Glad to see you enjoying the cam. __________________

You are right. The white rhino was close to extinction but was saved by very successful breeding programs in South Africa. Now they are not so rare any more, and South Africa even 'exports' them to other Southern African countries. Yes, I suppose the one we saw was a bull because bulls are usually solitary. If you want to have a look at pictures from rhino sightings we have had lately, you can go to the 'Streaming Cam sightings and times' forum. Open the 'Sightings Log - Mammals' topic and click on the dates behind 'Rhino, White'. This should take you to the topics with rhino photos.

Thank you! Just want to be sure this is the right spot for questions..I think white rhinos are the ones that are/were close to extinction am I right? what an honor to be able to see them regularly here then. so that would have been a Bull and if I keep watching I may see a Mom later (today for me) Thanks for the info I am so happy to be here.! __________________

Hello Janni, The rhino we just saw was a 'white rhino', also called square-lipped rhino. 'Black rhinos' (hook-lipped rhinos) are very rare sightings in the area. At the moment we see rhino at the waterhole almost every night - solitary bulls as well as rhino mom with her offspring. There is a very good chance that we will see rhino again soon - if not tonight then tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Happy Camming! |

I know what you mean, when I see something I get excited and want to yell, hey, somethings there ! ! Addicted? Is that when you want to watch all the time? Then, yes, it is addicting. Guilty here.
