Hello....I must have this mystery explained. Last night (Weds.) the Nkorho Pan cam had some very strange phenomena that it recorded. It was between 9:00 and 10:00 PM Nkorho time and it looked like meteorites or flares landing around the pond. There were several of these that landed. I later noticed one that lit up from the ground, circled and then took off. I can not imagine the explanation. Did anyone else see this? Thanks, A.J.

Welcome to Africam! I think,in general, anything that flies in the night looks a lot like car headlights photos. Because the cam is slower, (I think) they move further and it shows as "the streak" whether it's up to down, or down to up. __________________

Thanks for your response! That makes sense for the ones going towards the ground, but what about the thing that looked like a light and then took off from the ground? I can't imagine what that is.

Hi, A.J., I'm guessing those are night jars that fly at night catching insects. They look like UFO's-long white streaks that fly at great speed. The nightj ars are in the night hawk family.  |
