Wildearth's/Djuma cam chat

Monday 15 October 2007

Congrats Karen & Aquila

New Post on WE Blog:

Well after speaking to as many people as possible, and all your help and thoughts WE are confident the leopard sighted on the afternoon drive of the 10th October 2007 was: Tyson. Which means the leopard that stole Karula's kill on the morning of the 18th July 2007 was probably not Tyson. WE are not yet sure who that was, but one theory is that it could have been Mtimba.
A big thank you to Aquila for all the research that she did as well as for sending in all the above photos of Tyson. Well done.
WE are going to build up a collection of photographs and positively identify all the leopards in our area, you can help by mailing us any, and all, information you can gather to info @ Wildearth . tv
Djuma Game Reserve is one of the best places on earth to view leopards going about their daily business and WE want you to get involved in helping us to build as accurate a family tree of these beautiful cats as we can. So get clicking, search the web and send us your pics/videos and identifications. When we have photographed and can identify all the leopards and know all their local names WE will begin photographing their tracks. Each track is unique, like their spot patterns, and after a while WE'll all know who has been in the area ... really for sure. (One day y'all will be the first virtual trackers.)
Whether we like it or not, it is very definitely ... in our nature to get to know these special animals as well as we can ... coz WE love them

hiya folks,
LOL... SAG... Aquila and I are on the phone now....on another mission and hopefully it's not gonna be impossible..lol

THANKFULLY all the hard work payed off and the pics of leopard have been identified as "1" leopard and not 3 different ones.

We are NOW on a mission trying to ID the 1st humongous male that was called Tyson that stole Karula's kill back on july 18th. that's when nick and helen thought it was a female lion at first from a distance.

we should be joining the rest of you shortly on forum, sorry for going MIA... but trust us... it's in our nature.

And why are we doing all of this.... as nick always said... because we can ;op

Hi Gang and thank you all! Just so happy they are going to start a database! That will be so awesome. Smiling Hopefully all of you will join in the fun and provide them with photos and input.

Lea, the dude on 07/18.... well I just don't know. Wondering now if that could be Jordaan's Male since no one seems to know what he looks like except that he is BIG. LOL I looked at pictures that were said to be Matimba and he doesn't look like the one on 07/18. Sad

Hopefully, Pieter is looking back thru his photos as he is familiar with Jordaan's Male when he was at another reserve.

This is great that they are starting a data base.  I would like to know his name so that I can change it on my pictures.  Hopefully they will find out soon and let us know.  You and Karen are great.  Thanks

thanks all, but would like to add that it was a vast team effort.
As some of you were right there helping in your own ways and giving your opinions on the pics also.

I am thrilled as well that a Database is now in the creation process. I have been curious about a few things before and hated that I could not use Djuma as a reference in looking at Identified Leopards both male and female as well as some of the lions.

if you can put in your mind back behind the cam to the left. it's not too far to that thick drainage line that rexon showed us the other day, that the Kuhuma Pride likes to hang because of being well hidden in there.
wonder where them boys are...hmmmmm
would be cool to have another show right in front of us again huh.
