Just an upadate on the WE lottery situation. Below is the latest traffic analysis for my webspace. You will note the steady rise at the end after the Mapaogo thing started.

The last column (the 14th) is actually incomplete since my server takes the snapshot at around 11 PM (EST)...so that column does not reflect traffic after that time which was considerable. When the data comes in...I won't be surprised if that day is a new record currently held by the previous day, the 13th. Now what we see is that my traffic doubled (and then some) following the Mapogo drama. Assuming that the same happened for other viewing methods such as the stand-alone, WE po-up, etc....we can safely say that over twice as many people are trying to view than a week ago. Now...a more detailed stat....the daily usage so far this month:

Now here you will want to look at the far right column first. That is the days of the month. Note the last three days, 12, 13, 14. Then look at the column "pages" in light blue. You see that on each of those days, my server sent out over 1000 pages. I do have other pages on my site, though....and have determined that the djuma page now actually accounts for 60% of my traffic. Some quick math and you get over 600 page hits per day. Is that how many people are trying to watch my viewer? No.....every time someone refreshes, it counts as a page hit...so some people get counted more than once. However...since the player is designed to be left on without refreshing, we must assume that the majority of the 600 are individuals...probably 300-400. And that's just my viewer which not everyone uses.

So what does this all mean? Well....it's gonna get alot worse before it gets better is the way I see it. The trend shows an increasing interest. It remains to be seen where it levels off. Could be tomorrow....could be weeks from now. No way to tell....and I am making a number of extrapolations that could be wrong....but there is no denying the trend itself.

Happy camming..... Laughing out loud

Nice "scales" maxx.

It is not a surprise to me at all    Smiling

Saw it happen with Nkorho, but there was not the 80 slots issue.

Not to open a can of worms... but there's so much I don't understand about this Beta test stuff. How long has this (the testing) been going on? Why don't they use their advertizers $$ to make things better. It's obvious to even me that this is a popular site("this" being WE). I just don't get it. I know it's free right now and I appreciate that, I really do but seems to me that someone's missin' the boat! Does this mean that if Africam finally does start a drive that we'll have the same problems again??

Kimilou, they aren't receiving advertising dollars.

Here is their explanation right from their Blog site:

WildEarth is a content wholesaler. That is to say: WE license our 24 hour per day stream to broadcasters, currently Telkom Media, and they are responsible for distributing the stream to an audience and converting that distribution into revenue. Telkom Media is a relativley young broadcaster which will be coming of age in 2008. They do not yet have the billing systems, administrative systems, customer relationship systems, network, etc. in place yet, to provide a world class quality of service at a level that they would be comfortable taking your subscription money and have therefore elected to wait until they do. They are working hard to implement these, and other, systems, and I am assured that they will be of the absaloute highest standard.

I would suspect part of the the upward trend is seasonal too. During the winter months in the northern hemisphere will be times when more people are inside in the evenings. I agree though that there is a general upward trend since April 28th 2007 when they broadcast the first live drive.

I'd be interested to know why the huge spike in kbs on Jan 3rd which is not reflected in any of the others figures for that day maxx....

I realize that it's Telkom who is "missn' the boat if they , as a broadcasting co., aren't soliciting for advertisers. Any radio or TV station can't survive without advertisers. Web sites like Facebook and Myspace are free to use because they (the site owners) sell advertising space to other companies/businesses. I just can't see why they aren't progressing faster towards that goal.  ENd of rant....

It's just a small snapshot in a long run thing....but should explain the recent experience everyone is having about the near impossibility to get a seat on a drive if they miss the window at the server dump. And of course that window is getting smaller and smaller as more people try to jump through it.

I understand your frustration.  I feel it too, as I am extremely addicted to their games drives and the whole WE team!

Fortunately for me I don't get frustrated since I don;t try to get on WE....but another thought occurs to me.

Since the pool of people watching is getting larger....that means the pool of people recording has to get smaller as less of them get access. So...as more people try to get on...the less people there will be who actually see things because of the lack of recordings. An inversely proportional relationship. Sorta like taxing a product to the point where less people buy it and revenues actually go down...law of diminishing returns.

Isn't math cool.... Laughing out loud

but then again some of those new people will start taking pics & vid and so starts the circle over.  Fingers crossed WE gets things set up for more "seats" soon.

Part of Telkoms` problem is with a legal challenge by the failed bidder Black Earth Communications as this was posted yesterday!

I could be wrong....but I don't think there ever will be more slots prior to going pay service. From a business standpoint, they don't really have to. It's like having someone at the supermarket giving out free samples of a new product. You don't have to feed the same people, everyday. Just make sure to get different ones each day. Then when your new Cheeze Wiz flavor hits the market....many have already tried it and will remember how smooth and creamy it was and buy it.

So...Telkom media just has to keep squeazing the wiz, little by little, and get a few new people every drive....and when they switch to pay....Bob's your uncle. Eye-wink

This is what Black Earths  lawyers are asking in the legal challenge: Black Earth Communications has a constitutional right to enter the broadcasting field, says the company's attorney.
