Maxx, I can connect more readily if I'm NOT connected prior to the dump. In fact, if I have a connection to WE I close it out a few minutes before dump time. It used to work when I was already connected, but lately as the site has become busier, I can't ever get back on that way....

Thanks...

I am trying to see if the latency and buffering mentioned by blueeyedlibra is indeed a factor. The playlists (all of them) are designed to not try and connect as long as they have a datastream. If a person is receiving the stream....and is behind others....then they will be late on their player trying to reconnect. Again...it might not matter depending on what is happening at the WE broadcaster server.

Hey maxx,

Does your old viewer still work?  I am using it and have not been able to connect all day.

From the way it sounds, you have a new viewer?  If it is the one that was posted earlier, I clicked on the link...and nothing happened.

I have made no changes to the viewer it is the same as always. There is no other viewer. The link that is being posted is simply a direct path to the playlist my Djuma viewer uses....that's all. The only reason it got posted was an experiment to see if the playlist would not only work in my viewer....but also in the stand-alone player the way Auntie Lyn's does. It was just a lark....nothing has changed.

Who uses WMP 11? this is the only version I have used to view WE. When I uninstalled WMP11 and went to 10, I didnt like it. I was not able to get on a drive over the weekend and I tried at 6 of them. Becuase of that queded message we are getting. I would like to stay at using WMP11 if possable.I would rather use maxx's (to free up my WMP) but it seems it takes longer to connect than WMP.

Edited:Also I have seen where maxx's player anywhere from 1 to 17 seconds behind WMP so when it comes to dump time that would put you that much behind thus missing out on a drive

Just to clarify....actually my player doesn't connect to WE at all. I explained how the code works in the New Djuma Viewer thread on how my site simply redirects the user. Now...if you find yourself behind others....there are two possibilities. One...there is more latency in your connection to WE. One or more of the hops is getting held up. Or....you have your WMP settings (which the embed player uses) set to buffer more data. I have my player set up to do this on my machine so when Africam has a poor data stream, I have a better chance of staying connected. Ir puts me about 10 seconds behind everyone else, but it helps to avoid the player running out of data and stoppin. Thus forcing a restart and having to watch the intro all over again.

Now being behind everyone else for Djuma could very well be a disadvantage. I don't know what exactly happens at the server dump. But being behind on my djuma viewer would be a function of your local settings or those in the pipeline between you and WE.

So how does the dump work? I don't know....but lets say it involves two commands sent from final control to the broadcast server. The first says....disconnect all connections. The second says allow connections. Now if this is how they do it....then a factor might be how long between those two commands is taken. If the operator takes a long time...like 30 seconds or a minute....then being behind on the buffer might not make a difference. But if the two commands are very close...like seconds...then perhaps since one is behind on the buffer, by the time they start re-clicking...the spots are gone. This is all wild speculation to be honest, so please...nobody quote me and I sure hope I don't see these wild ramblings on the WE blog.

All this speculation begs the question then...is it better to not be connected at the time of the dump. Or is it better to already have a connection. You guys are the best to ask. What have you noticed? Better luck getting on new or better luck getting back on after the dump?

Hi Chris,

I think a lot of it has to do with connection speed. Maxx's player is all I ever use and I connect on most drives using it. But I also have a very fast connection since I'm on a business DSL account.  You may want to look into that. Maybe you could make some adjustments in that area. Good luck! Smiling

I'm very surprised it works in the stand-alone...it really shouldn't as it isn't a true WMP playlist...LOL

Wildcall....first add the link to the djuma.asx to your favorites/bookmarks. After that....pull down your favorites list and right-click on the link...then hit "send to" then desktop.

yes Maxx, it works, it plays just like any playlist. You have 1000 clicks on it according to WMP. It connected me earlier in the am, but I had to reboot due to other problems and lost the connection Puzzled

Yes...there are 1000 links and I also stuck in a repeat command to start over if it runs out. I am really surprised it works in any stand-alone. Me and Lady's mom were just chatting about the clickers and figured it couldn't hurt to try it. I looked at the code in your playlist, Lyn....and it is very different from mine....so go figure.

Guys, I am having a brain hiccup - Maxx this link is the ONLY way I have been able to acess Djuma on WMP on this danged Vista computer.THANKYOUTHANKYOU

I can't for the life of me remember how to save the link to my desktop. I've done it before but must have hit yet another dead brain cell ...Embarassed
