SafariSnaps
Guidelines
Welcome to the SafariSnaps guidelines
Welcome to the SafariSnaps guidelines, the best place for you to view live animals in their natural environment and showcase your wildlife knowledge by tagging all the amazing species with their photos.
SafariSnaps is Africam’s exciting new community game. Whilst watching the live streams, you can tag an animal. Each animal will have a rarity score based on how often they are seen. All tags will be recorded in your profile and within the SafariSnaps leaderboard. By tagging Africam’s animals, you help Africam and the lodges keep a record of the animals and their movements at the various waterholes.
• The snapshot needs to clearly exhibit the animal you have identified, as we are developing usage of the tagged images for conservation machine learning. If the animal is not clearly represented in the image, we will remove the snapshot and update the score.
• Each community member playing the game may tag a species once from a live sighting. It is not in the spirit of the game to tag the same species multiple times to inflate your score. A Live sighting is defined as when a species type enters and exits that camera view session.
• Should you note that a community member has tagged the same species multiple times from a live sighting, please inform us and we will approach the member and remedy the scoring.
• The Africam Resident Rangers and Zoomies have compiled the animal database with the applicable scores. Rarity scores are based on how often the animals are seen on the live cameras and may differ from how endangered or rare they are in the various locations. Africam reserve the right to modify the rarity scores and add animals to the game should the need arise.
• Should you not be able to identify an animal, please download the animal identity kit. Please note that Birds have been excluded at this stage. We are scheduled to launch our Bird tagging category in January.
• The description is not compulsory. Should you wish to add a description, please use it to outline any unique features or behaviour specific to that sighting. Importantly, it is of immense value should there be distinct markings or characteristics of the animal that you would like to highlight for identification purposes for others or for our rangers in the Africam Shows.
• Please note that no unlawful or objectionable content will be accepted. This includes harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, obscene, profane, sexually-oriented, racially offensive or otherwise objectionable material.
• Rhinos are endangered and under threat of poaching. To help protect them, please do not tag or post snapshots or discuss rhinos seen on Africam. Thank you for being part of the solution
• Africam aspires to be a safe place where our wonderful community of wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy the live cameras, learn and share their knowledge. The SafariSnaps game must be played with the right spirit. Above all, be kind, considerate and share your knowledge and insights to other community members. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and please be patient and considerate to all SafariSnaps participants and our Zoomies operating the Cameras.
Please Note:
We reserve the right to terminate your registration and participation at any stage should you not adhere to the rules and guidelines as stated above.
